| Why commercial dairy farms
are using Jerseys to cross their cows?
Because through the crossbreeding of a dairy herd of other
breed, the following advantages can be achieved:
* Since it is a small-size animal, there can be more animals
per hectare.
* Lower feeding cost
* Cross-breeding produces more total solids per hectare.
* Due to its lower weight, they have few problems in legs
and foot angle, causing less damage to pastures and paths.
* They are tame animals.
* and most important, there is a minimum risk of problems
during calving in heifers.
* Levels of butter fat and milk protein are increased.
* Improved reproductive performance
* Less ealth problems, and therefore the productive life
in the herd is longer.
* Less somatic cells levels.
* High heat resistance level (heat stress)
* Jersey heifers have their first calving at 24 months old,
for their early maturity.
The Jersey is a breed of small calves, which is important
to avoid calving diseases in Holstein heifers inseminated
with Jersey semen.
In order to obtain the best crossbreedings it is very important
to have quality heifers inseminated with proved Jersey semen.
